The Research Centre
of Corporate Governance of Nankai University was formally founded
in September of 1997. It was ever the former "Corporate Governance
Research Lab" for the Institute of Modern Management of International
Business School, Nankai University. This Center now consists of
research offices specializing in different areas, such as Corporate
Governance Theory, Corporate Governance Principles and Comments,
Governance of Transnational Corporations and Enterprise Groups,
Network Governance, Innovation On Corporate Governance and Business
Management, etc. The Center has now an academic research team consisting
of both a formal research staff of 19 people and an over 10 people
staff who hold posts concurrently inside or outside the University.
The Centre has fixed and relevant fund support from the University,
Ministry of Education of China, different science foundation and
enterprises for academic research. The center has accumulated a
good library and printed, digital research data on corporate governance.
The Center also has established the first internet website in China
specializing in academic research on Corporate Governance (www.cg.org.cn).
While relying on research
in business administration---a branch of learning of national-level
importance, the Research Centre of Corporate Governance of Nankai
University takes Corporate Governance as the main research direction,
and has developed fundamental and empirical research on significant
theoretical and realistic problems. On the basis of sharing overlapping
resources within various branches of learning, the Centre has formed
full-time and part-time academic groups and has developed a comprehensive
research platform which takes business administration as the central
subject of study and absorbs contents of study from Economics, the
Science of Law, Sociology, etc. The Centre cooperates nationally
and internationally on research on its network. Taking advantages
of this close cooperation, the Centre has established innovative
and systematical research on modern business management which focuses
on Corporate Governance. The Centre keeps participating in planning
and designing projects of national-level significance in the Corporate
Governance area, and is now an academic center assuming significant
relevant research projects supported by the National Social Sciences
Foundation, the Foundation of Humanities and Social Sciences of
the Ministry of Education, the Foundation of National Soft Sciences
and the National Natural Sciences Foundation of china.
The Research Centre
of Corporate Governance of Nankai University plans to accomplish
significant research projects in such areas as Corporate Governance
and Enterprise Growth, Human Resources Strategy, Corporate Investment
and Financing Strategy, Cultural Ethics, and to make first-class
symbolizing achievements on Corporate Governance Research in China.
Based on the above plan, the Centre sets out its goals:
To be a leader in the branch of learning of Corporate Governance
and become the training center for senior corporate governance researchers
and or senior executives or managers;
To provide services as a base for national and international communication
in corporate governance research area;
To enhance the comprehensive research ability to solve significant
practical problems and the ability to participate in making significant
decisions, and become a nationally and internationally famous base
for schools of thought and for providing consulting services in
corporate governance research area;
To make further exploration and innovation and become the exemplary
and radiating base in the aspect of scientific research system reformation
of colleges and universities.
